thomas a. porteous

Thomas Porteous is an associate with Kuchler, Polk, Schell, Weiner & Richeson, LLC.  Mr. Porteous graduated cum laude from Louisiana State University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Political Science.  While attending Louisiana State University, Mr. Porteous was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, the Executive Director of Public Relations for the Student Government and a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honors fraternity.  In 2000, Mr. Porteous earned his Juris Doctorate degree from the Paul M. Hebert School of Law at Louisiana State University where he was a member of the school’s Moot Court Board and Phi Delta Phi legal honors fraternity.

The majority of Mr. Porteous’ career has focused on the defense of Admiralty and Maritime claims on behalf of vessel owners, offshore platform owners, drilling and exploration companies and other related entities participating in or employing individuals in the maritime trade.  Mr. Porteous has performed investigations and site inspections on vessels and platforms in both brown and blue water locales and has defended claims from alleged injuries to seaman to major well control situations.  His maritime practice has allowed him to appear in both state and federal courts in Louisiana, Texas and Alabama.

Outside of his maritime practice, Mr. Porteous has been fortunate to have also defended clients in a wide variety of claims including construction defect, mold remediation, asbestos, personal injury and automobile/trucking related accidents.  For two years, Mr. Porteous served as In House General Counsel for a motion picture production company handling all aspects of contracts, negotiations and production related legal services required from casting to post production to the ultimate sale and distribution of films created by the company.

Mr. Porteous is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and all Louisiana State Courts.  He is currently a member of the Louisiana and Jefferson Parish Bar Associations.  His primary practice areas are Admiralty/Maritime Litigation and General Civil Litigation.

Mr. Porteous resides in Metairie, Louisiana with his wife, Aimee, and their two daughters, Lucy and Emma.
